Ningura Napurrula, a Pintupi woman, journeyed from the Gibson Desert to Papunya in 1962 as a young woman and later returned with her family, eventually settling in Walungurru. Her husband, Yala Yala Gibbs Tjungurrayi, was a founding member of Papunya Tula Artists and a key figure in the Tingari painting style. In the 1980s, Napurrula and Tjungurrayi's other wives assisted him by creating the dotted backgrounds in his paintings. Napurrula began painting independently in 1995 and increased her artistic output after Tjungurrayi's death in 1998. Her artwork, characterized by bold linework and monochrome infilling, is reminiscent of her husband's early works and reflects the significance of women's traditions, similar to the art of Makinti Napanangka and Inyuwa Nampitjinpa. Her sons, Morris Gibson Tjapaltjarri and Adam Gibbs Tjapaltjarri, continue their artistic legacy.
