Graham Radcliffe Sculpture-Prodigal Daughter

Prodigal Daughter

Portuguese Rosa Marble Sculpture on a base of Portuguese Rosa Marble.

The Prodigal Daughter was carved from a block of Portuguese Rosa marble during Graham and Margit’s early years living in Italy from 1987. After 6 years they returned to Australia and following that Graham went back to Italy every 2 years for working trips. It is because of this ongoing and enduring connection with the people in the marble industry in Pietrasanta and Carrara, Tuscany that Graham has access to most rare and high quality marble and onyx from all over the world. Another advantage of working in Italy, beside the inspirational company of sculptors from all over the world, is the availability of specialized tools and also marble workers who can be engaged for the laborious finishing process. Having support on the polishing side of things frees up precious time to carve new pieces. Roberto from Bacci Marmo is one of Graham’s long term contacts who can always be trusted to supply excellent quality stone. So it was with the block for The Prodigal Daughter. Portuguese rosa marble comes in different shades, and this one is a darker shade with some stunning colouration. The base is made from the same block, therefore harmonizing perfectly in colour. The Prodigal Daughter with her flowing curves and cascading long hair is quiet and pensive, quite unaware of her own beauty.
