Graham Radcliffe Sculpture-Hathor's Harp

Hathor’s Harp

Italian Statuario Venato marble on a base of black granite.

Graham and his wife Margit lived in Italy for 6 years from 1987, and after that Graham went back every 2 years for working trips. It is because of this ongoing and enduring connection with the people in the marble industry in Pietrasanta and Carrara, Tuscany that Graham has access to most rare and high quality marble and onyx from all over the world. Graham carved Hathor’s Harp 2016 / 2017 in his workshop on Mount Glorious. The material was already in his possession from previous shipments. Just as a point of interest, the price of a raw block of marble acquired in Italy at least doubles by the time it arrives in Australia. The crates for shipping have to be made from specifically treated wood to be able to enter Australia, where they are fumigated on arrival, and the wharf duties in Australia are often more expensive than the shipping costs themselves. Graham has created a number of marble string instruments like the Egyptian Harp, Music from Another World and Resonance. The strings are stainless steel rods carefully bent to insert into pre-drilled holes. Music, the highest resonating art form, is always playing in Graham’s workshop. Sound has transforming qualities and the Hathor’s, highly evolved beings from another dimension, deliberately use sound for healing and growth. Here is their harp.
